Guantanamo Bay: Dealing with the Enemy in an Age of Terror

If the people in Gitmo are who the US Gov says they are, then shouldn't we be using tactics that promote retraining (w/o using brainwashing techniques) their mindset toward the "western" or "civilized" or "Judeo/Christian" worlds. Holding them in small cells and showing them (through effective but none-the-less admittedly demeaning interrogation methods) that their views on "our society" are correct will just cause them to be more "violent" toward democracy and a "one-world" system.

The governmental and military abuses at Gitmo are not only destroying America's leadership in the world, but, because of the chain of command leading directly to the Commander in Chief and his henchmen, these unconscionable actions are grounds for impeachment of the leadership of the United States. Most simply, the abolishment of habeas corpus is the abolishment of democratic rule of law. It is difficult to overestimate the damage of this miscreant policy, its abuses, its coverups, its moral, legal, and political trajectory into opportunist and criminal behavior under the guise of the war on terror.

Are you kidding me. These detainees decided on there own to join the fray. They are lucky that they are in a cell and not the Ground. I geuss the power of Islam couldn't overcome the power of fear and cowardice that overtook them at the sight of our Military. If they don't like the Confinement, maybe they should have changed their creed to Death before Dishonor and actually stuck to it. I have more respect for the Muslims that died fighting us then the cowards who quickly raised the white flags and quit. I agree with dismissing these Enemy combatants from their prisons but only because i resent having to care for cowards who represented their countries and their religion shamelessly.

The problem with the Guantanamo Base is that we do not know what is really happening. The government keeps refusing to release any records on how the prisoners are treated, besides the fact that they "deny affiliation". The prisoners protested their treatment by starving themselves. While this may just be a way of keeping quiet, we have to respect their rights none-the-less. Some people say they are not citizens, so rights do not apply; but the truth is, we have to respect everyone, even our enemies. It is common decency and it is their right, and when we find all the answers we need, it just makes us look that much better as a country. We need to be respectful, honorable, and diligent just like we were over 200 years ago.
